American Idol 2010: Final 2 contestants take the stage

The finals for the crappy American Idol 2010 Season is here; Ryan Seacrest started off with announcing that this week there were 7000 people in the audience.
Crystal Bowersox won the coin toss after the show last week and got to choose who would go first. She opted for Lee Dewyze going first. Each contestant will sing three songs tonight; The first song will be their own favorite song of the season. The second song will be a song chosen by executive producer Simon Fuller and the last song is the song that will be released as their first song in case they win.
As Lee Dewyze is the first contestant we first saw a small documentary about Lee Dewyze when he was little. he chose to sing the song "The Boxer" for his favorite song of the season. The first few sentences sounded like he was very very nervous tonight, but when he hit the refrain he pulled it together and made the song sound awesome. Randy Jackson said that it was a great way to start off the night but that he needs more energy. Ellen said he did it better than the first time. Kara DioGuardi said that it was a good choice but that he indeed needs a bit more energy. Simon said he expected more as it was more like a kiss on the cheek when expecting a kiss on the lips.
We immediately went into the small documentary about Crystal when she was little. She has chosen the song "Me and Bobby McGee". She actually managed to keep her eyes open most of the time and actually connected with the audience. The audience also seemed to be more into Crystal's song than they were in Lee's. But compared to each other they are really on a level playing field. Randy said the performance was dope. Ellen DeGeneres said she is really compelling on stage. Kara said she loved it when she sang it the first time, and she still loved it tonight. Simon Cowell said that this was Crystal on her best and that we definately have a competition tonight.
The song that Simon Fuller chose for Lee was "Everybody Hurts" from R.E.M. Personally I didn't think the song fit Lee's style and I felt like it felt flat at several spots. Randy Jackson said it was better than the first one and that it started off pitchy. Ellen said that she felt he went off a few times but that the performance was good. Kara said it wasn't a perfect vocal but that he was accessible. Simon Cowell said it was a brilliant choice of song from him and he mentioned that it's clear that Lee is nervous as he went off the melody a few times.
For Crystal Simon Fuller chose the song "Black Velvet". The song choice much more fit Crystal than the song that was chosen for Lee. Unlike her first performance she had her eyes closed most of the time. But she did sound very good and it was a good performance. Randy said Mama Sox is in it to win it. Ellen DeGeneres said it was fantastic. Kara DioGuardi said that Crystal gave all she had and that it showed she is in it to win it. Simon said he heard the song too often in the auditions where people are murdering it, but added that unlike them; Crystal nailed it.
The song that Lee was singing to be "released" if he wins was U2's "Beautiful Day". That's right, they finally decided not to go with original songs! This also means the contestants are not cursed anymore when winning the title. The song was very close to the original and it was a decent performance. Randy Jackson said that he loves the big rock voice of Lee. Ellen said he did a great job, Kara said he had some good and some not so good moments. Simon Cowell said Lee is a great guy and that the competition was made for people like him.
The last performance from Crystal was her singing the song "up To The Mountain" by Patty Griffin. It's harder to compare this to the original song as it's more obscure and yet more artists have covered this song before. Crystal sounded very good while singing though. Randy said it was an amazing song by an amazing performer and that the performance was incredible. Ellen said that she has a beautiful voice. Kara DioGuardi said that it showed that Crystal was completely emotional invested into the song. Simon said it was by far the best song of the night and as the last critique of him for being on the panel his comment would be "That was outstanding".
The show closed out with Will Young closing out with a tribute to this season. Will Young was the winner of the original first Pop Idol in Brittain.
From all the comments tonight and the songs given to the contestants to sing, it shows that the producers really want Crystal to win this season. Looking at both their talents though either one can easily be winning this year.
