Today is finally the finale of American Idol 2010, arguably the most boring seasons ever. With season three still being the worst season in my opinion. They started out mentioning that Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox were both two of the 13 people going to Hollywood from the Chicago auditions.
Ryan mentioned that the difference between the winner and the loser this year was only two percent. I noticed that unlike other years they did not actually mention how many votes were cast.
The top 12 performed "School's out" by Alice Cooper, half way the song Casey James introduced Alive Cooper. It was quite a good performance, but we've heard better group performances this year.
Kris Allen performed the song "The Truth". It was a nice solid performance
We got to see a "Tribute to Simon Cowell". We started it off with him giving bad comments in the auditions. It included also comments from the other judges, including former judge Paula Abdul.
Siobhan Magnus and Aaron Kelly started performing the song "How deep is your love?", half way the last two living BeeGees, Barry and Robin, were on the stage singing the song instead and then Siobhan and Aaron joined them again. It was a good performance with a bit of weirdness when the two former contestants were singing together with the BeeGees. While Siohan and Aaron sounded good together and the BeeGees sounded good together, all four of them together just didn't sound right.
This performance was followed by Michael Lynche singing "Taking it to the streets" and was joined by Micheal McDonald, of course one of the Doobie Brothers that did the song originally. they sounded very good and the performance was fun to watch.
Dane Cook had a special song build from Simon Cowell's best insults. The song was hilarious and at the end previous contestants that were insulted joined Dane on stage. It seemed that the end of that bit went a little bit out of hand as they cut quite quickly to a commercial.
After the commercial we immediately went into the song "beautiful" by Christina Aquilera and the person to kick off that song was Siobhan Magnus, when Didi Benami joined it sounded off key, one by one the other girls from the top 12 joined in. They switched to the song "Fighter". at the end of this song Christina joined thefemale contestants. She started singing the song "You Lost Me" all by herself. From the whole performance I felt that Christina didn't really want to sing with the contestants as only one sentence of the middle song was sung together. After the performance we got to see a funny video message from Ricky Gervais to Simon Cowell.
Lee Dewyze kicked off a performance of "I Can't Go For That" by Hall and Oates, He was slowly joined by the other guys from the top 12, they switched to the song "Man Eater". At the end of that song both Hall and Oates were introduced, they started singing "You Make My Dreams Come True". They sounded really good compared to some of the previous guest performers tonight. the contestants provided the back singers parts.
We got a live feed from Toledo, Ohio which was hosted by Jenelle. The feed only showed that there were a lot of people but nothing important got told. this all was a lead into Crystal Bowersox singing "Ironic" by Alanis Morisette. At the end of the song she introduced Alanis. Alanis started singing "You Oughta Know". Crystal joined in and it was a very entertaining performance, they also sounded very good together.
After another commercial we got to see a performance by the winner of American Idol five years ago: Carrie Underwood. She performed her latest song "Undo It." As usual she sounded terrific. Ryan Seacrest said that the song was co-written by Carrie and Kara DioGuardi.
We got to see a video of Kris Allen surprising Crystal and Lee with a custom Ford Fiesta with their own designs that they created earlier this year. This was immediately followed by a ford commercial that essentially was a collage of the crappy different Ford Commercials this year.
Casey James got to perform the song "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison. He was joined by a surprise singer: Bret Michaels. It looks that Bret is really doing great recovering from his brain bleeding a few weeks ago. Casey and Bret sounded really good together.
We got to hear a Medley of hits from the band Chicago with Lee Dewyze. Lee sounded better than the vocalists of Chigaco.
Matt Rogers was in Mr. Prospect, Illinois. The hometown of Lee. Again like the video from Crystal's hometown the live feed didn't tell us much. The crappy live feed section was followed by a better section of Simon Cowell video's this one was about Simon flirting.
We got a performance of General Larry Platt singing "Pants on the ground". It became even more hilarious when William Hung joined Larry on stage. I wouldn't call the performance great or good, but it was funny. We got to see another segment about Simon Cowell this was lead by Paula Abdul talking about Simon Cowell the first year and then the years after that. This lead into Paula Abdul being on stage and she got a really big pop of the audience. She greeted the judges and Ryan then focused on Simon and talked a little bit about their partnership as judges. This all ended with a video and Simon Cowell telling that it was the best ten years of his life and that he will miss it.
After this we got a performance that started out with Kelly Clarkson, then Ruben Studdard joined in and after the first two winners of American Idol most of the other American Idol winners came out one by one joining them. Fantasia of Season three, Carrie for season four, Season Six winner Jordin Sparks was joining in next, making me wonder why Taylor Hicks wasn't there, He was the next winner joining after Jordin though. The next winner joining was Kris Allen. The only contestant missing was David Cook. They were joined by a lot of the other top 12 finalists from previous seasons. At the end Ryan asked Simon to join him on stage and he gave the microphone to Simon for a last speech. He said that the show will indeed be different without him but that the show will go on.
Siobhan kicked off a group performance of the top 12 singing "Just Called Again", except for the final two. They were eventually joined by Janet Jackson which after singing a few lines together got the stage to herself. She gave a very emotional performance. This was immediately followed by her singing a more up beat song: "Nasty". Before she started signing that song you could see that she was changing outfit behind a whitescreen so you could only see the silhouette.
We got a quick overview of Lee's and Crystal's journey to the final two, this followed by both of them singing "With A Little Help From My Friends" they got joined on stage by Joe Cocker. It was a great performance and it is amazing that Joe Cocker can still sing as good as he can.
It was finally time to hear who the winner of American Idol is this year. Ryan Seacrest announced that Lee Dewyze was the winner of American Idol Season 9. Making Crystal Bowersox the runner up. And the show closed out with Lee singing the song that will be released as his first single: U2's "Beatiful Day".
Like every year we here at Curlio.com would like to thank each and every visitor that was interested enough to leave a comment for their opinions on this very boring season.
We were hoping that Crystal would be the American Idol. She did an amazing job in all sorts of challenges; each song she delivered with style, class, and in an interesting and fabulous manner. Lee may be the winner; but Crystal outsung him each and every time. She is a true winner!
I can not find the adequate words to express my utter and sheer disappointment with this season... with the contestants and most importantly the guest performers. It was positively the most awful season I have witnessed. The should just end the show. I mean American Idol without Simon, seriously!!!! C'mon now, let's be realistic. Cowell
No Adam Lambert -- couldn't have been that good of a night. Mamasox should have won this one -- I guess in a way she did cause she'll be able to write and sing her own music. Lee's good too, but vocally, Crystal had it.
it seems to me that most years the best singer gets 2nd place. this year is no different. lee is not a bad singer, but he can't belt out a song like mama sox. of course, there are exceptions when the winner actually is the best singer: ie: carrie underwood, kelly clarkson and fantasia.
Well, I did sleep through this season. The moments that I tuned in were enough to convince me that I shouldn't waste my time. David Cook >>> Kris Allen >>Lee. Kris was the lowest selling AI winner to date, my guess is that Lee will sell even less.
Didn't watch much of the finale but I did see how badly Janet Jackson SUCKED!!
another disappointment, should i say more? then again, looking back, so many past 2nd,3rd,5th...etc...place contestants, have went further then many Idol winners.Adam Lambert, Daughtry,Blake Lewis, just to name a few. so looking forward to Crystals first recording. you go girl!!!!!!
